probably but thats also likely because of already poor mental health that someone thinks that way so maybe them getting attention wouldn’t be the worst thing for them if it gets them help

tbf, sometimes it's definitely in the same spirit as wanting "bad" news at the doctors, because then that means that there's a diagnosis, a finding, and treatment. people want to be seen and heard and helped. And when you have a more mild form of mental illness, you may get dismissed or hated or misunderstood. so one may desire such drastic illness that they actually get treated like they have a mental illness, which they do. Just look around society right now: people on average are nice to ppl with obvious developmental disabilities, but when they're subtle, they get called weird and awkward and get treated horribly. Wouldn't that make you desire to be either "normal" or more disabled?
