I think to some extent it’s such an ego thing for doctors that patients know their own body! It’s insane. I’m sorry you went through that. I hope that your voice is heard and that the doctors responsible are held accountable. Sending you all the love! ♥️

Black maternal health is one of the main reasons I became a Doula. Having an advocate is so important especially under the circumstances when you’re not able to.❤️

That “well spoken” line gets me everytime… such a trigger the level of restraint it takes to not lose it at that point many will never understand…

I feel this soo much 😭 I’m so sorry Abby. I just had my second baby 2 weeks ago and I know my body. I was GBS positive and kept asking for my antibiotics, but they didn’t hang them until 20 minutes before I pushed. Knowing GBS requires antibiotics ideally 4 hours before delivery, it’s so frustrating feeling like you’re advocating for yourself when all they have to do is listen!!

I gave birth by myself a little over 2 years ago and was dismissed and had to argue the entire time. i couldn’t even just focus on birthing my baby, i had to focus on protecting myself and advocating for my health. in the middle of me asking a DR for a squat bar, he cut me off and told me that he’s delivered thousands of babies and this is just my first one so its his way and what he says goes. and yes he said it just like that. all because he said it’s easier to see the baby come out and easier for him to catch the baby with me laying back instead of me squatting. i was treated soooo disgustingly. i still cry about it till this day when i look back at my birth.

It's done purposely black women wouldn't be being ignored and dismissed if most yt health care providers cared if we live or die.

My first baby: I yelled about feeling like my bones were breaking, nurse dismissed me said I was new to childbirth. Family demanded the doc come in because I kept blacking out, come to find out my cervix swelled and I had to have an urgent c-section. We shouldn't have to ask for the basics. Take care Abby❤️

she's so right because a lot of women especially African-American don't make it home to the family they end up dying on the table giving birth or after they give birth to die because the neglect of not reading their medical record doctors need to stop doing that pay more attention to what the patient is telling you about the body and the medical record now we could avoid a lot of d e a t h s when these mothers are giving birth

all they didn't say is "you're so well spoken FOR A BLACK WOMAN" and the thought behind that is always "that's cute of her, still not listening" and it sucks sooo bad.

Women of color are the reason I’m applying to medical school next cycle. Not only does representation matter, but so does advocacy! I know what it feels like to be an unheard minority in a terrible healthcare system. We have to change the future for ourselves and our kids! Be angry, it’s okay. Advocate for you and your kids ALWAYS! Congratulations again!

They told you you’re well spoken to your face??? I’m so sorry Mrs. Abby. I wrote on a paper on this last year and it has played into my decision to not have kids. Unless God has other plans for me having children, I won’t be. I can’t risk my life for that.

I’m confused .. I’m so sorry but they are refusing certain care because your black and not white ? So a white patient wouldn’t have this issue ? I’m sorry I’m so confused or was the issue only with black people ?
