@otakucrave: The famous "Surprised Pikachu" face comes from Season 1, Episode 10 of the Pokémon anime, titled Bulbasaur and the Hidden Village. The Match: Ash Ketchum tries to capture a wild Bulbasaur. He sends out his Butterfree to use Sleep Powder. The Twist: Bulbasaur blows the Sleep Powder right back at Butterfree, putting Ash's own Pokémon to sleep. Pikachu's Reaction: The camera cuts to the group reacting to the loss, showing a wide-eyed, open-mouthed, shocked Pikachu in the corner of the frame around the 4:02 mark. How It Became a Meme A Tumblr user posted the screenshot in the fall of 2018, noting how obvious the outcome was (since Grass-type moves or powder attacks don't always work the way Ash planned). The Joke: People use the image to mock situations where someone acts shocked by a completely predictable consequence. Official Recognition: The official Pokémon social media accounts later embraced and referenced the meme
