October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. And we need to talk about the kinds of abuse that are often invisible to everyone except the person living through them. Because abuse doesn’t always leave a black eye. Sometimes, it leaves you questioning your memory. Your worth. Your sanity. Your ability to trust yourself. Domestic violence can look like… 💜 Gaslighting — making you question your own reality. 💜 Verbal abuse — insults, humiliation, and words designed to tear you down. 💜 Emotional manipulation — using guilt, fear, or your love for someone to control you. 💜 Coercive control — making you afraid to speak up, set boundaries, or make your own decisions. 💜 The silent treatment — withholding communication to punish or control you. 💜 Blame-shifting — making you feel responsible for the very behavior that is hurting you. 💜 Intimidation — using anger, threats, or fear to keep you in line. 💜 Isolation — slowly separating you from the people who love and support you. 💜 Sexual coercion — pressuring you into something you don’t want. And there’s something else we NEED to talk about… What happens when someone has been pushed, manipulated, belittled, and emotionally broken down for so long that they finally reach their breaking point? Suddenly, their reaction becomes the story. Their tears become “drama.” Their anger becomes “crazy.” Their attempt to defend themselves becomes the only thing people want to talk about. But what about everything that happened BEFORE that moment? What about the months or years of emotional damage that nobody witnessed? People often see the reaction. They don’t see what happened behind closed doors. And let me be clear: understanding someone’s breaking point doesn’t mean every reaction is okay. It means we cannot fairly understand a situation by looking at one moment while ignoring the pattern of behavior that came before it. A victim doesn’t have to be perfect to deserve compassion, safety, and support. Abuse can leave you questioning who you are long after the relationship ends. You may have to rebuild your confidence, rediscover your voice, and learn to trust your own instincts again. Healing isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always linear. And it doesn’t happen overnight. But you are not broken beyond repair. ❤️‍🩹 I’m sharing this because too many people are suffering in silence, believing that if there are no visible bruises, it doesn’t count. YOUR PAIN COUNTS. YOUR STORY COUNTS. YOU DESERVE TO FEEL SAFE. 💜 To anyone currently living through this: I SEE YOU. 💜 To anyone who has escaped: I AM PROUD OF YOU. 💜 To anyone still trying to make sense of what happened: YOU ARE NOT ALONE. And if you ever need someone to listen without judgment, my inbox is open. You don’t have to have all the answers. You don’t have to explain everything perfectly. You deserve to be heard. Please SHARE this. Someone on your friends list may need to read it today. And remember: You don’t need visible bruises for the abuse to be real. Sometimes the deepest scars are the ones nobody else can see. 💜🫶🏼 #DomesticViolenceAwareness #DVAM #EmotionalAbuse #PsychologicalAbuse #BreakTheSilence
