🔥 “If the Church stops groaning, the fire will stop falling.” – Joseph Ayo Babalola Joseph Ayo Babalola (1904–1959) was a Nigerian evangelist and revivalist whose name became inseparable from prayer, fasting and the rise of indigenous Pentecostal Christianity in West Africa. Born on April 25, 1904, at Odo-Owa in present-day Kwara State, he was raised in an Anglican home and later worked for the colonial Public Works Department as a steamroller operator. In October 1928, while working near Ilesa, Babalola believed Christ called him to leave his trade and preach. He obeyed. With a Yoruba Bible and prayer bell in hand, he began travelling through towns and villages preaching repentance, renunciation of idols, faith in Christ and divine healing. Then came Oke-Ooye, Ilesa, in 1930. What began around a church gathering became a revival that drew multitudes. Reports of healings spread, converts gathered, idols were abandoned and Babalola’s name travelled across Yorubaland. The flame did not remain in one town. He preached across Nigeria and into Ghana, often withdrawing for long seasons of prayer and fasting before returning to the crowds. This was the kind of ministry behind the words above. Babalola believed public power must be born in private travail. A man may shout before thousands and yet shake nothing in hell; but let him learn to groan before God, and heaven itself becomes his confidence. “Elijah was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly” James 5:17. Babalola became one of the central figures in the movement from which Christ Apostolic Church emerged in the 1940s. He continued preaching, praying and leading revival work until his death at Ede on July 26, 1959, aged fifty-five. The work outlived the man. Christ Apostolic Church continues across Nigeria and overseas, and Joseph Ayo Babalola University, established by CAC in 2006, bears his name. Many men desire the fire. Few are willing to become the altar. Babalola’s life still asks the Church the harder question: who will remain before God long enough to carry what they ask Him to send? 🔥 — #JosephAyoBabalola #Quoted #SpiritBroods #PrayerLife #Revival
