@girlmovedabroad: The starfish you see at low tide in Zanzibar are living animals. They breathe through their skin and even a few seconds out of the water can cause serious damage to their organs. It is tempting to pick them up for a photo. They look still and harmless. But that stillness is not calm. It is stress. The best way to admire them is exactly where they are. In the water, in their home, doing what they have always done before tourists arrived. Leave them where you found them and the ocean stays beautiful for everyone who comes after you. 🌊🤍 #zanzibar #tanzania #starfish
Unfortunately they don’t use them brain, they are way more greedy, already are much less tourists comparing with last years.

Marine life there will be absent soon. There is no protection for the environment. Even the water doesn't look at all as blue as a few years ago. Infrastructure is not keeping up with all of the new building and increase in tourism. Also, the new fish market in Stonetown was built by Japanese and i believe they are exporting with out considering the environment. At night, in Stonetown, you can look out over the water and see so many lights from fishermen boats that it looks like a whole city.

After all, almost all of them catch these starfish to show to tourists. It’s part of the business. I think everyone could use some education—including the white people who organize turtle feeding sessions or dolphin hunts. Unfortunately, mass tourism will quickly destroy Zanzibar’s beauty...
