I genuinely don’t understand what people’s issue is with this. Do people realise how hard it can be for SOME people to let their guard down, accept support, or even allow themselves to be embraced by someone, let alone a complete stranger?
For some people, being able to sit with their feelings, cry, be vulnerable and allow themselves to be supported without immediately distracting themselves through doomscrolling, alcohol, rugs or other coping mechanisms is incredibly difficult.
Not to get too deep, but emotional regulation — or the lack of it — can have serious consequences in adulthood. Learning how to process your emotions, feel safe enough to be vulnerable and accept support is so important.
And for those saying it’s just people cashing in, you can clearly see the emotional toll this work can take on the people providing the service, too. I think people are so quick to judge things they don’t understand without considering that what might seem strange or unnecessary to one person could be genuinely meaningful to someone else.
There is nothing weak or shameful about needing support, and if something helps someone feel safe enough to let go of emotions they’ve been holding in for years, why is that such a bad thing?
