‼️EUTHANASIA SCHEDULED 10/14/26‼️ Yummy’s story cannot be told publicly, but her frail, emaciated body speaks loudly and clearly. Please read her rescue plea in the comments, and let us know if you’re in a position to help. Yummy entered the shelter on 9/25/26 in very poor condition. Yummy has periodontal disease, a severe upper respiratory infection, ear infections bilaterally, cataracts in both eyes, pressure point callouses on both elbows, and a mammary tumor (semi-firm and multilobular). She is also severely emaciated and is suffering from demodectic mange (positive skin scrape upon intake). Yummy had bloodwork performed, which showed moderate chronic and acute inflammation. Her ears were cleaned and she was given a long-acting ear antibiotic upon intake. She was also given a long-acting allergy injection and long-acting antibiotic injection. Yummy was started on oral antibiotics and pain medication daily. Her upper respiratory infection (URI) has not resolved despite treatment. Yummy is suffering from demodectic mange. Demodex mites live normally on a dog’s body, clearing dead hair and skin cells. In older dogs, if the immune system is compromised by an underlying illness, such as cancer or autoimmune disease, the demodex mites can grow out of control and cause severe hair loss and deep wounds in the skin. The mite causes severe itching, which no medication can resolve. Treatment in adult dogs for demodectic mange requires identifying the underlying illness and resolving that first. Yummy is also suffering with several other illnesses, any of which could be the inciting reason for the demodectic mange. Yummy requires a thorough diagnostic workup to determine her underlying illness and initiate treatment. Yummy’s URI is also not resolving, which will likely require further diagnostics to determine the best treatment option for her. Yummy was noted to be friendly, handleable, and ravenous for her initial exam. She can be avoidant when you first enter her kennel and try to leash her (may do best in a home without children), but is very affectionate and sweet when out of her kennel. Yummy has been non-reactive towards other dogs here as can be seen in the below video. She will rub against our staff for pets. Please review the below-linked medical history for more information and let us know if your organization can provide Yummy with the further veterinary care and diagnostics that she requires. Yummy could be humanely euthanized sooner if she were to decline further. Rescues: The captions provide a snapshot of Yummy’s shelter notes. For a comprehensive behavioral and medical history, please message the rescue coordinator at the email below. ❣️I am a volunteer and neither an employee/representative of OC Animal Care, an animal behaviorist, nor a vet and not qualified to interpret behavioral nor medical notes.
