Fact for you all, if they refuse what you feel you medically need, like an xray, second opinion, specialist etc, say to them “ok, please can you make a note on my hospital records right now in front of me stating what I asked for, why, and your reasoning for not allowing me to get it.” Then say “Once you’ve done that I want a signed physical copy of that printed out in front of me, with a secondary person signing off on your professional opinion, and to be contacted if any of those notes are changed at a later date, after your refusal of my request” they’ll quickly do what you ask. Nothing scares a medical care provider than a chance to be sued with their own signature as proof of their fuck up. I’m sorry if I wrote that wrong it’s 4am and I’m tired but had to say this. It’s saved my ass so many times. I’ve got the scars to prove it.

My husband has gout and one night had a massive flare up. His foot was swollen and purple from how big the crystals were. Drive him to the er. He’s hungry so I grab him something to eat from the vending machine. Nurse tells us not to eat just in case. So now he’s in excruciating pain and hangry. Finally see the doctor and after we explain what’s wrong he puts his hands on his hips leans over and is like “well what do you want US to do about it”. After my husband telling him not so nicely that he doesn’t want to be in pain, they gave him oxy which he’s allergic too. When he threw up the same nurse from earlier asked if he had eaten recently. We said no because she told us not to eat. The nurse said well you should have eaten before hand so you didn’t throw up. Ended up taking him to urgent care the next day and they got him the steroids usually prescribed for gout flare ups.

I went into an ER once after having been pretty badly mauled by a feral animal protecting my chickens on the farm, both hands had been bitten and clawed so badly that I had a towel that I was using to stop the blood, they had me try to fill out paperwork and I couldn't help but laugh as at that point I couldn't even bend my fingers if I tried, just managed to smear blood on the forms. She had someone speak the questions and write for me instead 😭

that first one I knew it was a dislocation just from the description. the fact that three doctors saw an obvious dislocation and wrote it off as drug seeking pisses me off

Doctor was going to take a blood-test off the heel of my infant son and placed it dead center when I hip bumped him out of the way and did it myself. No incompetent doctor is going to impair my sons balance even if the chance is small.

My mother had an allergic reaction to anti-gas medication and the out of hour's Dr service (something we have in my country as a step between primary care and urgent care) called an ambulence. Hospital couldn't work out why the reaction happened and why her liver enzymes were through the roof, but sent her home after the reaction stopped with a hepatology referal and an instruction to come back if she got the same pain that required the anti-gas medication in the first place, and told her NOT to take ANY kind of medication or supplement until hep had seen her. 6 days later we end up back at the hospital, and between being triaged and being called for bloods to be taken she deteroriated and started passing out. My friend who was with us was standing in front of my mother with my mother's head on her hip to stop my mother tipping out of her chair. I went to the triage nurses for help, who sent me to another nurse station, who told me to go back to the triage people and kept demanding to know why my mother hadn't taken any pain meds- clearly thinking my mother was one of those idiots who don't take any because they think 'it'll mask the symptoms'- Wouldn't do anything even when I told the nurse that a Dr in the same fucking ER had told her NOT TO. My friend ended up having to pretend to be my sister and yell at the nurses to get my mother help because both sets seemed to think it was the other's job.
They EVENTUALLY pumped her full of pain meds via an IV, kicked us both out as they put her in a recliner versus a bed and they said no relatives could stay if the patient was in a recliner, then discharged my mother at 4am with no money (I took her purse when they kicked us out bc she was so out of it I was worried somebody would rob her), a phone that had died and refused to even call her a taxi. She had to borrow a stranger's phone to call me and get me to call her a taxi to get her home as I don't drive and my friend had to take her husband to work at 5am in the opposite direction.
Fast forward 6 weeks, a hep appointment and an ultrasound, its Gallstones. Apparently sometimes gallstones can cause some form of rare enzyme/ histimine reaction in rare cases.

I used to get sent to a church camp on spring break every year in high school, completely dislocated my shoulder, everyone was freaking out, apparently ripping it back into place myself was not the answer, but I did get to see our chaperone, who was a local cop pass out (3 surgeries later and I think mistakes were made)

I had a bad reaction to a medication. It caused me to break out in splotchy hives, have sores and rashes inside my mouth, flu-like symptoms, practically the whole 9 yards. However, with both this medicine and reaction there was an extremely high chance i could be developing a deadly skin disease that is KNOWN to happen when you have a reaction like that to that medication. I sat in the ER with nothing but a IV drip for S I X H O U R S. Bc it was late at night (2am??) and my provider who initially prescribed me the meds called me off her personal number and told me to go to the ER immediately. And they told me they couldn’t do anything till the dermatology office at the main hospital would answer them. Ya know the place that treats thing like GUNSHOT WOUNDS, didn’t want to do a simple skin biopsy on me without contacting dermatology. They told me I could either go home bc they can’t hold me, if I don’t want to stay. OR drive myself or a get in an ambulance to the main campus hospital and stay there for a couple days. After 6 hours. Bc they didn’t know what to do. I js told them I’m js going tf home and I still get random rash flair ups till this day (this happened in December) and I js kinda ignore now

I once came into the hospital while being carried by my dad and brother because I had a blood sugar of below 1 mmol and desperately needed medical help 2 nurses put me in a wheelchair and left me there for 15 minutes before helping me (i was still unconscious) and later send me home saying I didn't need to get checked for diabetes turns out I had diabetes i found out 4 years later and now because of continuous high blood sugar (4 years and at least 3 months above 38mmol) my legs give out halfway through the day and I have a headache that won't ever stop

I was told it was "just anxiety" in the ER waiting room and (in a empty ER) left alone in a closed room. (I felt "off" and was vomiting)
after being alone for 3 hours, without anyone who saw me or took vitals, they finally came and did vitals and ECG. 10 minutes later i was connected to tons of machines and they suspected blood clots in my heart and lungs. thankfully it was "just" severe pneumonia and I was in hospital for 4 days.
The fact that they said it was anxiety, without taking any vitals or anything, and then left me alone for several hours, when it could have been deadly. If it would have been blood clots those 3 hours could have killed me. I also got confirmed by another nurse that it was empty in the ER, so i was left alone knowingly. That one still makes me mad (i was 15 years old)
