When I graduated from high-school 1975, I could weld, run a lathe, fix a car, build a birdhouse on and on! 😂👏👌

I struggled in classroom atmosphere. but shop class was different. I payed attention. I left school and started working at a bodyshop . my shop teacher visited me now and then at the bodyshop worked at.he was proud of what I was doing because he gave me metal work basics. 3oe4 decades later I was working at my own shop after I got home from the bodyshop and weekends I was in my 50s . he called and asked if I could paint his wife's dream car. it was a 66 mustang. I sead I could . when I finnished it they were so happy. his wife took it to a car show and got best of show with her dream car. I had to do my best for my teacher 😎

I agree but setting your own schedule and more overtime than you can fill does not compute

I agree. Removing the dress code was another example of the failed educational system.

39 years ago My shop class where I built a dresser, head board , night stand all out of solid walnut inspired me to get into the building trades. Now after 32 years owning a construction company i have a second generation son that is running my framing crew building custom homes . What he is saying is real

I took every industrial arts class fro 7th grade thru 12th grade in 1978. I have been employed since then. No money spent on education and worked on CNC Mchines since 79. everything from operator to setup then programming. Never regretted it.

I teach in the last woodshop in middle school in my district. I’m retiring at the end of this year and have looked for more than two years for a replacement because I don’t want my program to die. Turns out it’s really hard to find somebody who has a teaching license and the experience with power tools. It’s a shame because it’s a fun class to teach. The kids really like it and they’re very proud of what they build. I went from teaching it every single day to just two periods a week during enrichment, but that’s better than nothing..
