OBSESSION (2026) — Full Movie Summary Genre: Psychological Horror / Supernatural Thriller Written and Directed by: Curry Barker Produced by: James Harris, Haley Nicole Johnson, Christian Mercuri, Roman Viaris Production Companies: Capstone Pictures, Tea Shop Productions, Blumhouse Productions Distributed by: Focus Features Premiere: September 5, 2025 (Toronto International Film Festival — Midnight Madness Block) Theatrical Release: May 15, 2026 (United States) Runtime: 109 minutes Language: English Budget: $1 million --- Story Overview Obsession tells the story of Bear (played by Michael Johnston), a shy, insecure employee at a musical‑instrument store who is hopelessly in love with his confident coworker Nikki (Inde Navarrette). After botching his chance to confess his feelings, Bear buys a novelty trinket called “One Wish Willow” — a cheap charm that promises to grant one wish. In a moment of desperation, he wishes that Nikki would love him more than anyone in the world. The wish comes true — but not in the way he imagined. At first, Nikki’s affection seems like a dream come true. But soon, her love becomes possessive, violent, and terrifying. She stops sleeping, stops eating, and lives only to please Bear. When he tries to pull away, her obsession turns deadly. The film spirals into a chilling descent where love becomes horror, and Bear must face the consequences of trying to control another person’s heart. Obsession explores the dangers of forced affection, toxic masculinity, and the illusion of romantic entitlement — a modern horror fable for the post‑MeToo era. --- Cast - Michael Johnston as Bear - Inde Navarrette as Nikki - Cooper Tomlinson as Ian - Megan Lawless as Sarah - Andy Richter as Mr. Holloway --- Production Notes Curry Barker conceived Obsession after watching The Simpsons episode featuring the cursed monkey’s paw — reimagining the concept through the lens of modern relationships and wish‑fulfillment horror. Filming took place in Los Angeles and Vancouver from October 2024 to January 2025, with Barker editing the film himself. The score, composed by Rock Burwell, blends eerie synths and distorted lullabies to mirror Nikki’s psychological unraveling. --- Critical Reception Early festival reviews praise Obsession for its sharp social commentary and unsettling tone: - /Film called it “a confident crowd‑pleaser with a killer lead performance.” - Screen Rant described it as “a deliciously dark and unsettling horror about the dangers of wish fulfillment.” - The Hollywood Outsider hailed it as “fresh, unnerving, and surprisingly funny — a reminder of why we fell in love with horror.” --- Themes The film examines obsession, consent, and the distortion of love through supernatural means. It flips the “crazy girlfriend” trope, revealing that Bear’s selfish wish — not Nikki’s madness — is the true horror. --- Where to Watch In Theaters: May 15, 2026 (US release via Focus Features) - Streaming: Expected on Peacock and Focus On Demand by August 2026 #ObsessionMovie #BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor #CurryBarkerHorror #TwistedLoveStory #FocusFeatures2026
