Preparation…. 1. They know their story inside and out, backwards and forwards. They don’t sound robotic because they’re not memorizing answers. It’s their story. They did it. 2. They know the job description. They’ve also reviewed people currently doing the job on LinkedIn. 3. They’ve studied the company and the hiring manager. They know the business and who they’re meeting with, their background, title and tenure with the company. 4. They have evidence ready and align it to what the hiring manager needs. They can explain the impact they’ve made and connect it directly to the solution for the hiring manager. 5. They can adapt their answers at the drop of a hat. Different question? Different angle? They know their story well enough to pivot. 6. They position themselves differently. “I’m targeting top companies in this industry” sounds very different from “I’m looking for a job.” It’s positioning. That’s all. 7. They create a sense of marketability. If they’re interviewing with other companies, they state it. They position themselves as a hot commodity not someone hoping to be picked. 8. They know their worth. They’ve researched the market and come in knowing their market value. 9. They have pointed questions prepared. About the role, the business and directed toward the hiring manager. 10. They actively listen. They qualify my questions with their own questions. I know they’re listening, not just waiting to respond. 11. They’ve prepped for the uncomfortable questions. Weakness. Short tenure. Career gap. Lack of industry experience. Why they’re leaving. Compensation. They can answer without hesitation. 12. Their beginning and close are dialed. The most successful candidates don’t walk into an interview hoping they’ll know what to say. They’ve already done the work. #interview #job #careeradvice #jobsearch #hiring
