@theusupdate9999: Woman Spends $380,000 to Move Her Great-Great-Grandparents’ 1914 House to Her Family’s Land For years, JaSondra Schmidt dreamed of restoring an old home with her husband, Jason. While scrolling through Facebook comments in late 2025, she stumbled upon a post about a 1914 two-story house. To her surprise, the structure was originally built by her own great-great-grandfather, Freiderich. Determined to save her family history, the North Dakota couple arranged to buy the home. They planned to move it six miles away to land that Jason’s family had owned since the 1940s, uniting both of their family legacies on one property. Moving the massive structure was no small task. House movers placed steel beams and rollers under the building, while power companies cleared overhead lines along the six-mile route. Twenty family members gathered to watch the historic home make its journey. It remained suspended on beams for nearly two months while contractors finished the new basement and foundation. With moving, concrete, and ongoing restoration costs, the total investment is expected to reach up to $380,000. Schmidt says the effort is completely worth it, and her biggest goal is to share a cup of coffee inside the restored home with her 90-year-old grandfather.
