I'm a service oriented autistic, I 100% use autistic polling to show affection and care. Its kinda how I try to "love language" others... my family calls it "care bullying"

This can also be a sign of compulsion, if you are doing this repeatedly it could be a sign of OCD rather than autism

I do this to everyone. Gathering information because I really am curious.

I keep asking my husband if he still wants to be married. And he sighs and says yes of course and that’s like ok thanks I’m making sure I’m still a wife lol

Im into it, but how does this differ from a "temperature/vibe check" 👀

as an autistic person myself, if I Get Polled by my friends I frequently end up getting really stressed out by it and I think it's because I'm so used to being punished for Feeling the Wrong Emotion in a situation that the idea that anyone is monitoring my reactions is stressful. it's hard to me to sit with the idea that "how are you feeling" DOESN'T have a "right" or "wrong" answer; that I'm not being tested, I'm experiencing a bid for connection.

I've been doing this all my life yet it didn't cross my mind to look for a term. Idk but there's something so empowering in gaining vocabulary.

Man. I do this all the time and didn’t realize what it was. “Hey, I just want to check in and make sure we are ok. You didn’t do anything to make me think otherwise but I’ve just noticed your mood today and wasn’t sure it was related to something I’ve done.”

I’m not going to assume how you feel, I value the actual source of your feelings more than my best guess.

it's not about not trusting myself...it's about wanting the other person to feel like a participant and for them to feel appreciated and like their opinion matters...I do it to my detriment sometimes

allistic people and 'empathy' dont go well together. they're more of the "bully them to death" or "castrate them for being different even though he invented the computer and defeated the notzees" type of mentality. the "kill em with a pitchfork for being other" mentality. the "morals are useful if it serves me" mentality

Sure. But also sometimes I’m just getting a drink and the constant questions feel like accusations.

Yes! For activities I want to know that the person I'm with actually enjoys whatever because the time together matters more than the activity and I don't want them to be uncomfortable etc. And you're spot on for the other polling

I know it's a really odd thing to bring up but I'm into bdsm and we talk a A LOT about consent in relationships! Most people are very consent focused in their friendships not just their relationships. Anyways I use the safe word stoplight system in my daily life and I'm definitely going to teach it to my kids. Red means stop or no go, yellow means I'm hitting my limit and green means I'm good to go. I'd use it to ask simple things like do you want a hug? Red, yellow or green?
