How about one that lives 5 hrs away and we’ve known one another over 20 years but only started dating 6.5 years ago and everytime we make plans to go see each other he retreats and gets anxiety the only time it worked was when i surprised him without telling him and he was ok and all went well. But over the years he’s gotten worse and he keeps breaking plans and I finally had to step back yesterday

No not all they retreat from vulnerability be of they were once treated badly as a cold and it’s life scarring. It takes alot of effort to want help and make the steps to get help because there are times they enjoy their alone time more then being together with the anxious person partner but then miss them she will come back and it starts all over again unless he gets the help he needs it will be hard to change
