@sindymf: How Your Body Turns Fat Into Energy Did you know that most of the fat you lose actually leaves your body through your breath? Here's how it happens: When your body needs energy, fat cells break down stored triglycerides into fatty acids and glycerol. This process is called lipolysis. The fatty acids travel through the bloodstream to tissues such as muscles, where they enter cells and are processed inside mitochondria. Through beta-oxidation, fatty acids are broken down into acetyl-CoA. The citric acid cycle and electron transport chain then help generate ATP, the usable energy that powers cellular activities. During complete fat oxidation, carbon atoms from fat are converted into carbon dioxide (CO₂), which travels to the lungs and is exhaled. Hydrogen from fat contributes to the formation of water, which leaves the body through urine, sweat, breath, and other routes. Fat doesn't simply disappear or turn directly into energy. Its atoms leave your body mainly as carbon dioxide and water. #HumanBiology #FatMetabolism #MedicalEducation #AnatomyAndPhysiology #ScienceExplained
