Peg Leg Sam Jackson - 'Froggy Went A Courtin' live [Colourised] 1976 I colourised this from the excellent Tom Davenport documentary 'Peg Leg Sam Jackson - Born For Hard Luck'. In 1930, he lost his leg after falling from or trying to hop a freight train near Raleigh, North Carolina. He fashioned a makeshift peg leg out of a fencepost and strapped it to his leg with a leather belt. Starting in the late 1930s, he travelled with traditional medicine shows, performing alongside bluesman Pink Anderson and working with various troupes such as Dr. Kerr, Dr. Thompson, and Dr. Silas Green. His act combined Piedmont blues, bawdy toasts, monologues, dancing, and classic numbers like

"Froggy Went a-Courtin'" (also known as "A Frog He Would a-Wooing Go") is a traditional English-language folk song with origins tracing back over 470 years to the mid-16th century.
