PART 2/3 New here? Part 1 has the whole story. Quick version, Mom offered to bring her son's girlfriend to France, but only if he downgraded his experience to cover the cost. He said no, and Mom decided that no might mean he doesn't really love his girlfriend. Here's why my eyes went to Mom, NOT the son. Nobody asked for any of this. The girlfriend wasn't hurt, the son wasn't begging to bring her. Mom made up the option, changed the deal on him, then judged how he answered the changed deal. If I offered my kid a trip of a lifetime and then swapped it for something worse, their “no” is about the swap not about who you love, IMO. And one more thing I can't let go of… She listed every number for us, then told us money's no issue. So if it’s not about th money, what’s the problem why even have your son downgrade? A son who you’ve trained to like the finer things in life… This just didn’t add up for me and then I read her response to one comment and it’s the reason why I’m sharing this story. We’ll talk about that in part 3! PS, nobody's the villain here. Mom has every right to not spend $25k, that's a completely fair call. This story just caught me because it's such a good example of how some parents will quietly test their kids to see where they're at. I'm not saying that's for sure what happened here. It's just what that kind of thing can look like. PSA, this story was shared on a public forum and is meant for education and reflection. It's not here to replace advice or treatment from a licensed professional. #storytime #relationshipadvice #boundaries #inlaws #relationshiptalk
