@interstellarspac: Light is the fastest thing in the universe, and even it takes a long time to cross space. Here's how far one beam travels, starting from Earth and ending at the Andromeda Galaxy. ⏱️ In 1 second, light covers 186,282 miles, enough to circle Earth more than 7 times. It reaches the Moon in about 1.3 seconds. ☀️ In about 8 minutes, it has traveled 93 million miles and arrived at the Sun. That means the sunlight you feel on your skin left the Sun 8 minutes ago. 🛰️ In 1 minute, light travels 11.18 million miles. In 1 hour, it covers 671.8 million miles. In 1 day, it reaches 16.1 billion miles, which is also where Voyager 1 will be in November 2026. 📆 In 1 year, light travels 5.88 trillion miles. That distance is one light-year, the unit astronomers use to measure space. ⭐ The nearest star beyond the Sun, Proxima Centauri, is 4.24 light-years away, about 25 trillion miles. 🌌 Then there's Andromeda, 2.5 million light-years away, or about 14.7 quintillion miles. The light you see from it left on its journey 2.5 million years ago, long before modern humans existed. It's the farthest thing most people can see with the naked eye. 🔭 When we look into space, we aren't seeing things as they are now. We see them as they were when their light set out. Every glance at the sky is a look into the past. 🌠
