my mom “spanked” me one time, fell to the ground, cried, apologized, and then took me to get ice cream. she didn’t even hit me very hard. she was doing something that she was taught to do and literally couldn’t handle it. i think about that a lot. like what kind of person do you have to be to even be able to hit your child?

my dad wanted to spank me as an INFANT for crying 🤨 i spent my whole childhood being slapped or belted for saying the wrong thing or showing emotions. it made me avoidant and emotionally constipated and conflict averse as hell, but supposedly i was ‘such a good kid who never cried’ LOL. like yeah… i was so traumatized i just stopped acting like a person and now i’m still learning how to participate in life like a normal human! hitting kids wil never be ok, and just because it was normalized in older generations doesn’t mean it has to be passed down.

my parents used to hit me and throw me against walls and my head was always felt the impact of it, I could literally have died numerous times from it. When they say spanking they never just mean “spanking” alone - they mean beating !

Children are the most abused group of people. Period. And the weirdest part of it is people claim they love them, and abuse is for their own good. I honestly never thought of the abuse I received as a big deal until I became a mother myself, and saw it from that perspective. It is insane. There were moments where my nerves were at their limits, and I felt like my composure was about to slip, and it was then that I realized that "spanking" was no educational measure. Cause no one ever does it intentionally, and calmly. It is always the parent's inability to self control their emotions. It is letting your own frustrations run rampant.
