I don’t get the uproar about it. Care costs impact lowered and middle earners far more than the top 1%. If you said to me now, my options were giving up 10% of my wealth upon death, but your kids inherit the other 90%, or there’s a risk you’ll lose all of it if you get ill, so they’ll receive nothing, I know what I’d prefer.

So instead every e should pay more taxes and ha e less inheritance to pass in to thier kids, allowing the rich to continue getting richer and the wealth gap widening while the middle class and poorer in society are squeezed even more Perfect idea if you want to create a servant class or mass riots

Anyone that doesn’t agree with this hasn’t had a relative put in care and lost everything they worked all their life hard for to leave to their children and it clearly shows , I can guarantee there’s hundreds of thousands of people who would of rather paid that 10% than loose everything into the care system that’s broken anyway , I can vouch this is amazing idea having worked in care seen people loose everything into that system I’ve also seen family refusing the care system to keep the house out of greed and that poor old person being left all by themselves lonely in a big house with carers coming in 4 times a day not even 2 hours a day imagine living like that either out of fear of loosing your home or family not allowing it 10% is small contribution all things considered not many people are moving into them houses after relatives have died many choose to sell many would buy , remember family can sell to family at discount or gift them the deposit whilst still contributing that 10% into the system as required I don’t understand why anyone would rather loose it all than loose 10%

I pay my taxes, miss holidays, don’t waste my money instead buy a house, pay interest on the mortgage and when I die they take 10% death tax. But my friend who spent all their wages, has a council house and had a life of luxury holidays doesn’t pay anything. Why when we both earn the same, paid the same taxes is my family hit with a 10% tax death tax. I’m penalised again for being sensible, not taking a council house from a young family. Explain to me why people who earn the same are treated differently in death when one was sensible and the other had an amazing life of luxury but didn’t buy a house.

Imagine living with a relative they sadly pass away and then the house you are living in has to be sold to accommodate the death tax. What a cold policy that is.

I would HAPPILY pay bloody 90% of my dad's estate if it meant everyone could receive the quality of care he did. he was in a car accident so his care was paid for by the other drivers insurance and was absolutely phenomenal and meant he had a wonderful life until he died 15 years later. I want that for everyone
