@jessievrealty: I think most people are going to have a hard time believing this one until they actually see construction happening. The old Fiesta Mall has been sitting there for years, and this definitely isn't the first time we've heard big plans for that property. But I'm still pretty interested in what's happening with PALO District. They had another board meeting on October 5th, so there's still activity behind the scenes. We just haven't seen the two things that would really move this project forward. An actual construction start date and a commitment from a professional soccer team. And I'm not surprised it's taking longer than expected. This is a $2.5 billion project with a LOT of moving pieces. The part I think people are overlooking is what's happening beyond the stadium. Mesa is trying to bring more housing, hotels, restaurants, healthcare and businesses into the surrounding Fiesta District too. If you've spent much time around the old Fiesta Mall, you know that whole area could use some attention. And I don't think a few new restaurants or another shopping center would be enough to really change it. It needs a reason for people to start spending time and money there again. I also wouldn't be surprised if the plans change quite a bit before everything is built. Projects this size rarely end up looking exactly like the original renderings. I'm still keeping my expectations pretty realistic, but I do think this is one of the more interesting redevelopment projects in the East Valley. The stadium will probably get most of the headlines, especially if they land MLS, but I'm paying just as much attention to what happens on the surrounding properties. That's where we could really start to see this part of Mesa change.

HOCKEY HISTORY LESSONS :
Hardly anybody goes to the diamondback games and the Cardinals games are mostly full of fans rooting for the away team. The Coyotes attendance was a joke for 28 years so thinking that people are gonna go to a soccer stadium is something I find hard to believe maybe people will go the first time just to check it out but as far as customers goes, I doubt it.

Why wouldn’t Mesa get to vote on it like Tempe did for the coyotes stadium? I live in this area and them building this would be horrendous. Hopefully it gets put to a vote

This is ridiculous, 80% of season ticket holders for the Phoenix coyotes lived in the east Valley. They should’ve brought the stadium out this way to begin with. We need an expansion hockey team that will bring in money that will sell. Women’s soccer, any soccer? Absolutely not.

The area around is the way it is because of the people there. That won’t change regardless of what you build there

who agrees that a stadium for a women's soccer team would be a waste of money? I am not discriminating, its just proven that there is not enough fans attending their games. it has to be for USL/MLS and women's soccer to be successful.
