As a mobile app developer, the 4 months are assuming the requirements don’t change midway through… oh they’ve already changed. 5 months.

what if you hand crafted a working perfect version of the app then fed it to the ai to make the app

The amount of people that are saying this is wrong is concerning. I’m hoping they’re just novices and haven’t worked in production, otherwise they’re shipping shit code. I love having AI as a tool and it’s made maintenance and minor work much quicker. Features and production still need people or you’ll have growing debt and broken stuff.

👍 This is EXACTLY what companies who thought AI would save time and labor (therefore money) are experiencing- AI is FAILING. There are good reasons the human element can't easily be removed, mainly AI has NO IDEA how things work in the real world, so it can't recognize when it's solutions aren't practical.

What if we completely change the requirements every 9 days while you’re building it?

You can tell commenters here that work on pet projects vs robust product companies. AI can absolutely build this for your pet project, but anything with scale, usability, complex data, and other systems is not going to work. It’s great to bring in for parts but letting it run free is like using dreamweaver and thinking you made a site for a major SaaS company.

I wish I was allowed to give estimates. We aren't consulted. We're handed projects months after they were supposed to start and expected to still get them done by the original, completely unrealistic due date.

I’ve had to work with AI before for a task probably half as hard as this (company wanted me to), it took 4 months to finish. You literally have to handle one small task at a time, I’m talking spending 3-5 hours getting a button to work so that it can take you to the proper tab, I could’ve done it myself in maybe 5 minutes but company didn’t want that. It’s okay tho cause I got paid and wasted everyone’s time.

This is basically a non-exaggerated documentary about most tech companies right now, including where I work. I have to laugh because otherwise I'll cry

WRONG!!! It will take 8 months with A.I because a human will need to fix its mistakes too. 🧐

I'm pro sail the seas but I'm not about to put anything vibe coded on my PC. Not with the AI induced malware the modding communities are currently dealing with.
