@d_mdc_: “You start by telling the truth. You stop trying to control what happens after.” Lena gave a bitter little laugh. “You’re making it sound very simple.” “It’s not simple. It’s just necessary.” Bella stood and offered her a hand. “Come on. Let’s get you some water.” Lena let herself be helped to her feet. For once, she didn’t argue. •~ Bella stayed the night. She made Lena drink water, found her something plain to eat, and helped her into bed when the room began to spin. Lena apologised three times for being difficult. Bella told her she was being ridiculous. Lena apologised for that, too. By two in the morning, Bella had tucked a blanket around her and moved the wine out of reach. Lena lay on her side, staring at her phone. “Can I ask you something?” Bella, who had just settled into the armchair by the window, looked over. “Of course.” “Did you know?” “Know what?” “That I loved her.” Bella’s expression softened. “I suspected.” Lena let out a shaky breath. “I didn’t even tell you about her.” “No. You didn’t.” “I wanted to.” “Then why didn’t you?” Lena was silent for a long time. “Because if I told you, it would become real.” Bella waited. “And if it became real, I would have something to lose.” The words hung between them. Lena stared at the ceiling. “I thought if I never named it, I could never be foolish enough to need her.” Bella’s heart ached for her. “Oh, Lena.” “I thought I was protecting myself.” Her eyes filled again. “I didn’t realise I was making her do all the hurting for me.” Bella rose from the chair and sat on the edge of the bed. “You were scared,” she said. “That explains why you acted the way you did. It doesn’t make what you said any less hurtful. Both things can be true.” Lena turned her face into the pillow. “I know.” “And loving someone doesn’t mean you get to decide how long they take to forgive you.” “I know.” “And if she tells you she doesn’t want you back...” “Please.” Bella stopped. Lena’s voice had gone very small. “Please don’t make me imagine that tonight.” Bella brushed a strand of hair away from her face. “All right. Not tonight.” She stayed until Lena’s breathing became slow and even. But long after Lena fell asleep, Bella remained awake, looking at the woman she had known for so many years. She hoped Miu was all right. She hoped Lena would learn how to love someone without making fear the loudest voice in the room. And she hoped, though she knew better than to expect it, that the two women might someday find their way back to a conversation that had never been allowed to finish. ~~ Morning arrived without mercy. Lena woke with a pounding headache, a dry mouth, and a memory of every terrible thing she had said. For several seconds, she lay motionless. Then she remembered Miu’s face. She sat up too quickly and immediately regretted it. “Wonderful,” she muttered, pressing a hand to her forehead. From the other side of the bedroom door, Bella called, “If you’re about to throw up, please aim for the bathroom. I refuse to lose my favourite shoes to your emotional crisis.” Despite herself, Lena let out a small, broken laugh. It vanished almost immediately. She reached for her phone. There were messages from work. Two missed calls from her driver. A reminder about a meeting she had no intention of attending until she could look at a screen without feeling as though her skull were splitting apart. And nothing from Miu. No message. No missed call. No photograph of a terrible cake. Lena stared at the empty conversation. Then she opened their old messages and scrolled upwards. She found a voice note Miu had sent weeks earlier, laughing because she’d accidentally ordered far too much food. She found a photograph of herself asleep on the sofa, taken after she’d insisted she wasn’t tired. She found a message that simply read: I’m outside. Open the door before I freeze to death. Lena remembered answering: You have a coat. Miu had replied: And you have a heart. We all have our burdens. . ~~ continuation in the comments ~~ #lenamiu #thaigl #fanfic #storytime #lenalalina

Continuation3️⃣⏬️: She wrote one message. . I know the truth now. You were protecting me, and I hurt you when you were trying to help. I’m sorry for what I said and for refusing to listen. You don’t owe me a reply. I won’t come to you unless you want me to. I just needed you to know that I understand what I did. . She read it three times. . Then she sent it. . The message appeared beneath their old conversation. . Delivered. . Lena stared at the screen. . One minute passed. . Then five. . Then fifteen. . No reply came. . She put the phone down. . Picked it up again. . Put it down once more. . Bella, watching from the doorway, said nothing. . Eventually, Lena locked the screen and set the phone on the table. . “She hasn’t answered.” . Bella walked over and sat beside her. . “She may need time.” . Lena nodded. . “I know.” . And for the first time since the truth had emerged, she let herself consider what that meant. . Miu might need days. . Weeks. . Months. . Miu might never be able to look at her the way she once had. . Lena could not know. . She could not make it happen faster. . She could not offer money, influence, or a perfect apology in exchange for being forgiven. . She had spent five months receiving Miu’s love without ever having to name what it meant to her. . Now, if she wanted any chance of making things right, she would have to learn how to offer something in return. . Patience. . Honesty. . The willingness to listen. . Even when the truth frightened her. . Even when the truth made her feel foolish. . Even when the person speaking might decide she was no longer worth the effort. . Lena looked down at her hands. . “I wish I’d let her finish.” . Bella slipped an arm around her shoulders. . “I know.” . Lena’s eyes filled again. . “She tried so many times.” . “I know, sweetheart.” . “And I kept stopping her.” . Bella held her while the tears returned. . This time, Lena didn’t say she hadn’t meant it. . She didn’t ask how to make the pain disappear. . She simply cried for the woman she had hurt, and for the version of herself who had been so frightened of losing someone that she had pushed her away first. ~~ . .

Continuation4️⃣⏬️; That evening, Lena went into the kitchen and found the container of noodles she had ordered for two. . She stood looking at it for a long time. . Then she took it out of the refrigerator, placed it on the counter, and opened the lid. . The smell was familiar. . For a moment, she could almost hear Miu complaining that the crispy pieces were not evenly distributed. . She could almost see her reaching across the table, stealing from Lena’s plate, and smiling with that infuriating little expression that always made Lena want to kiss her. . Lena closed the container. . She didn’t throw it away. . She wasn’t ready to discard another thing that reminded her of Miu. . Instead, she put it back in the refrigerator and leaned against the counter, her arms folded tightly across her chest. . She had once thought the worst thing that could happen was discovering that someone she loved had been using her. . Now she understood that there was something worse. . Discovering that someone had loved her honestly, had tried to protect her, had given her every opportunity to listen, and that she had been the one to make love feel unsafe. . Lena looked at her phone. . Still no reply. . She didn’t send another message. . For once, she allowed the silence to remain what it was. . Not proof that Miu had never cared. . Not an invitation to try harder to get her attention. . Just silence. . A space Miu had every right to claim for herself. . Lena turned off the kitchen light. . In the darkness, she whispered the words she should have said four days earlier. . “I’m listening, Miu.” . But Miu wasn’t there to hear her. . And for now, that was the truth Lena would have to live with. . . To be continued…

Continuation1️⃣⏬️: Lena pressed the phone against her chest. . Her eyes burned. . She had been so busy protecting herself from the possibility of being hurt that she had failed to notice the person standing in front of her, offering love without guarantees. . And when that person finally tried to explain why she had been keeping something from her, Lena had punished her for it. . She had made Miu pay for every fear that belonged to Lena. . A soft knock sounded at the bedroom door. . Bella entered carrying water and painkillers. . “Here. Drink this before you attempt to make any life-altering decisions.” . Lena accepted the glass. . “I need to see her.” . Bella sat beside her. . “You need to be sober, rested, and prepared to accept that she might not want to see you.” . “I know.” . “Do you?” . Lena looked down at the water. . After a moment, she nodded. . “I’ll respect whatever she says.” . Bella studied her face. . “Good.” . Lena took a careful sip. . Then another. . “Can you find out if she’s all right?” . Bella hesitated. . “Do you want me to contact her?” . “No.” Lena shook her head immediately. “No, I shouldn’t involve you. I just...” . She stopped. . The instinct to ask someone else to reach Miu for her was familiar. Lena could make a request, have someone arrange a meeting, and control the circumstances in which she apologised. . But that would be another way of making the situation happen on her terms. . She looked at Bella. . “Never mind.” . Bella squeezed her hand. . “That’s probably the first good decision you’ve made about this situation in a while.” . Lena gave her a watery look. . “You’re a terrible best friend.” . “I’m an excellent best friend. That’s why I’m not letting you ruin this any further.” . Lena almost smiled. . Almost. . Then she looked at her phone again. . “I don’t even know where to begin.” . Bella leaned her head against Lena’s. . “Begin with the truth. No excuses. No explanations designed to make you feel better. Tell her what you did, tell her you understand why it hurt, and let her decide what she wants to do with that.” . Lena swallowed . “And if she doesn’t answer?” . “Then you wait.” . “And if she tells me to leave her alone?”

Continuation2️⃣⏬️: “And if she tells me to leave her alone?” . “Then you leave her alone.” . Lena nodded slowly. . It was a terrible thing, learning that love did not grant you the right to be heard. . For five months, Miu had given Lena room to be uncertain. . Now Lena would have to give Miu room to be hurt. …… . The truth, however, was not finished arriving. . That afternoon, Lena received a call from her head of security. . They had identified the person who had arranged the collection of messages sent to her. The woman had been working with an individual who wanted access to confidential information about Lena’s business dealings. Miu had been approached because she was believed to be close enough to Lena to provide private details without attracting suspicion. . When Miu refused, the individual tried another approach. . They had collected fragments of conversations, removed the context, and sent them to Lena in the hope that she would turn against Miu herself. . It had worked. . Lena listened without interrupting. . When the call ended, she sat in silence. . She thought of Miu receiving that first offer. . Miu, who had probably been confused and uncomfortable. . Miu, who had refused. . Miu, who had tried to handle the situation quietly because she thought she was protecting Lena. . Miu, who had then been accused of doing precisely what she had refused to do. . Lena pressed her hands against her eyes. . She had not merely misunderstood Miu. . She had made Miu’s good intentions look like evidence of her guilt. . She had taken the very thing Miu was trying to protect and used it as a weapon against her. . And now she knew the truth. . But knowing the truth did not mean Miu knew that she knew it. . It did not mean Miu had stopped hurting. . It did not mean she would ever want to see Lena again. . Lena picked up her phone. . She opened Miu’s contact. . This time, she did not type a long explanation. . She did not demand a conversation. . She did not ask Miu to help her feel less guilty. . She wrote one message. .
