@borntoserve07: "The person you care for just told someone you stole from them." "Nobody trains caregivers for the day they're accused." In 17 years, I've seen good caregivers, in facilities and at home, accused by the very person they were caring for." The person you care for most just told someone you stole from them. Your heart drops. You know you did nothing wrong. It happens in facilities, in home care, and in family homes. Nobody trains us for this day. I WAS THE ONLY CHILD FOR MY MOTHER AND SUPPORTS HER AND WHEN THIS HAPPENED TO ME I WAS DEVASTATED I DID NOT UNDERSTAND. Dementia, paranoia and mental illness can turn a missing purse into "she took it." To them it feels completely real, and often the closest person gets blamed. That doesn't make it hurt any less. So stay calm, and write it all down. Report it the same day. Keep a witness when money or valuables are involved. Every report deserves to be looked into, and honest records protect everyone, including you. Don't argue or try to prove them wrong. Stay calm, reassure them, and redirect. every report still has to be taken seriously, because real abuse does happen. "It's not personal. Protect yourself anyway." You can love them through the accusation and still guard your name. ❤️ #HealingForCaregivers #FollowMeAcrossTheBridge #Caregiving #DementiaCare #FamilyCaregiver
