@politicalparalysi: If Labour win the next election, the state pension will rise every year by inflation or 2.5%, whichever is higher. It can’t fall. The link to wages goes. Nothing changes before April 2030. #StatePension #TripleLock #AndyBurnham #UKPolitics #PoliticalParalysis
A national care service is finally a good major policy proposal

if the pension and the tax free allowance were adequate, it might. just might be credible. This Labour Government is obsessed with reducing the measly benefits for older people. If we can constantly change pensions, we can change how MPs and public sector receive their pensions and salaries.

The pension is below minimum wage. it is the management of poverty.

Good explanation. Pensions are due to rise by 3.9 per cent this year under the triple lock. Under the double lock they would go up by just 3.1 per cent.

Thanks for that. A NCS will also benefit thousands pensioners, and he (Burnham) is the first PM brave enough to tackle the care service seriously.

In the long term earnings do rise faster than prices so State pensions will grow at a lower rate than under the triple lock. This would be ok if the current State pension was close to the National Living Wage, but it is only half that amount. We need the triple lock to help to narrow this gap.

If the change creates savings it has to mean a pension cut. where else do the savings come from except out of the pocket of pensioners.

Providing care is a good thing, obviously, but he doesn't need to fund it by attacking the triple lock. This Labour government gives away billions of pounds every year to foreign countries, some of which hate the UK; all he needs to do is end this outrage, and that will fund his plan for care for British people!

You are playing with words. If the government is saving money by making this change then the pensioners are losing money, perhaps by not receiving as much money as they would but still it is a loss to the pensioners. It doesn’t matter what Burnham says, he is a Labour PM and after Starmer I don’t believe any Labour minister or Labour Prime Minister. Finally it seems Burnham has forgotten what happened when Starmer cut the winter fuel allowance, the pensioners are old not stupid.
