@lafamigliaspirituale: 🇮🇹 Happy Columbus Day! 🇮🇹 For generations of Italian Americans, Columbus Day has represented more than a voyage in 1492. It has become a symbol of our heritage, our ancestors, and the struggles they endured while building a life in America. In 1891, eleven Italian immigrants and Italian Americans were lynched in New Orleans during a time of widespread anti-Italian prejudice. Just one year later, President Benjamin Harrison called for a nationwide commemoration of the 400th anniversary of Columbus’s voyage. Columbus Day celebrations existed long before these events, but over time, the holiday became an important expression of Italian-American pride and recognition. Our ancestors faced discrimination, overcame tremendous obstacles, and helped shape this country. Their stories deserve to be told. Their sacrifices deserve to be remembered. And our heritage deserves to be celebrated. 🇮🇹❤️ 🤌🏼 Are you celebrating Columbus Day today? Drop a 🇮🇹 in the comments and SHARE this with someone who’s proud of their Italian roots! #ColumbusDay #ItalianAmericanHeritage #ItalianAmericanPride #ItalianHistory #italianheritagemonth
