my brother works at Meta. this is their reality now. he tells me he has to babysit 8-10 agents doing all the work, that he's exhausted cause he's doing a weeks worth work everyday some of his coworkers are babysitting up to 20 agents a the time

it's the end of software engineering, I've doing this for 10 years professionally, today I'm working for two companies and I'm just pressing enter, I copy what they send me in slack and ask Claude what to do, tell him to write slack comments like me etc, I don't even know what I'm currently working on, I'm just riding the last wave while trying to think of something to make money because code is solved, maybe generating content with AI... not sure yet

I experienced this an I have 5 years of coding experience when I use Claude I get more stressed become less patient it’s like managing a team of junior engineers and the worst part when I actually look at what’s built I can read the code but can’t build it myself it’s almost like I get dumber every time I use ai to code

There’s also a great majority that will absorb information better if they write it themselves vs pretending to read diffs.

thats actually not true. in my case using claude is counter productive spending too long to fix a bug only to find out that just a little brainstorming with oneself is enough to solve the issue in just 15 mins

there's no reason people shouldn't be able to answer this even if they vibe code because you can literally ask the AI to tell you.

Pms don’t care. They only credit the bad devs who get tasks done quick. When the mess explodes, senior devs get in trouble for complaining about the cleanup time

Just enjoy you’re selling software at this point. It will be made in house in a couple of years.

Wait did they just described the dev team that's making windows 11 [Tears of joy][Tears of joy][Tears of joy]
jokes aside it's coded absolutely horribly, bugs over bugs especially visible when installing the os

Not on my team 🤷♂️I say this as a technical manager. Yes, if the engineering team has no filter between them and the board, then yes everything is a priority. If the eng team has no proper tech leadership, then yes there will be no standards and no expectations of excellence. I think it’s just showing how underequipped and inefficient some of these tech leaders are. What do they do all day? Their job is to lead, manage and orchestrate their teams. If 20y ago had a global engineering situation where everyone all of a sudden discovered stockoverflow and the internet was flooded by copypasta code, that’s also a fault of the engineering management. Sorry. I’m biased but if your teams work 12-13h a day and “nobody reads anything anymore, nobody knows anything anymore” then you shouldn’t lead that team because you’re either lazy or incapable.

I got fired last year because I was taking soo long (against vibe coders), And i was the one who actually thinks, not just go with Llm. others just used llm doesn't even know what they were doing and they stayed at the job.

I don't understand this. you move from hitting the nails with the hammer (writing code) into the not fun spaces, designing architectural dreams. I love it.

LLMs really revealing how many SWEs are into shipping software rather than coding. No that there is anything wrong with wanting to do build software but y'all oughta emphasize with us folk that enjoy(ed) the coding and problem solving part
