@msmarysheffield: On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Detroit honors the first peoples of this land and the enduring legacy they carry. We must know our history, honor Indigenous voices, and ensure their stories are recognized as part of Detroit’s past, present, and future.

Mary Sheffield :

Detroit is home to the Anishinaabe people, including the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Bodéwadmi tribes, whose connection to this land continues to this day. Their history is part of Detroit’s story, but so is their present. Their communities, cultures, and traditions continue to thrive across our region. We must honor that enduring presence and ensure these stories are known, respected, and carried forward for generations to come.
