ISO 8000 on an older 5D mark iii. Is there noise? Yeah. Is it unbearable? Subjective but not to me. Taken before denoise in Lightroom was good, so I didn’t use it.

Beginners are told that simple rule because fundamentally it is easier to understand than learning the other things first, it’s not a bad rule to follow whilst you’re new.

at the end of the day , it does add noise. you can make all the technical arguments to redefine noise you like , but 2 images same relative exposure using stacked Nd filters and 150000 iso and one no filter 500iso . the 500 iso is gonna be the cleaner image .
