elena was just a innocent cheerleader girl, until she met stefan and his old brother and became the victim of everything. I don't get the hate towards her for being a crybaby which is she never was, all the once she loved died because of those unhumans. If she was making you annoyed or disappointed for being such a bitch or turning her human off, imagine you loving katherine after what she had done to her life. Katherine was just jealous and insecure blaming elena just because she never experience elena had in life before she turned into a vampire and what katherine became had nothing to do with elena.
