Reports say the investigation involves immigration paperwork her father filled out when she was a child refugee in the 1990s. The Justice Department confirmed the search but hasn’t said what it’s investigating, and she has not been charged with anything. Why this matters to you: if a sitting member of Congress, a citizen for 26 years, can have her childhood immigration file pulled back open, naturalized citizens should pay attention. This doesn’t mean your citizenship is in danger, but your records matter.
