@greg.healoutloud: If you grew up in a dysfunctional family, there's a good chance you learned to feel guilty for having needs, setting boundaries, saying no, or making choices that someone else didn't like. Maybe you were made responsible for other people's emotions. Maybe choosing yourself meant disappointing someone, upsetting them, or risking the relationship. So you learned to put yourself aside to keep the peace, avoid conflict, and maintain connection. And now, even as an adult, doing something that's good for you can bring up an enormous amount of guilt. But here's something worth considering. What if the goal isn't to stop feeling guilty before you start choosing yourself? What if part of healing is learning that you can feel guilty, uncomfortable, or afraid of disappointing someone and still make a choice that supports you? Because every time you abandon yourself to make that discomfort go away, you're reinforcing the same relationship with yourself that you learned growing up. And every time you allow yourself to experience some discomfort without abandoning yourself, you're beginning to build something different. You're demonstrating to yourself that you matter, too. This is a big part of the work I do with people in my 1:1 coaching. Not just understanding how dysfunctional relationships shaped us, but learning how to stop living through those same patterns and begin building a different relationship with ourselves. If you're ready to start doing that work, I offer a free breakthrough call where we can talk about what you're experiencing, what you'd like to change, and whether working together makes sense. You can schedule a call through the link in my bio. #cptsd #childhoodtrauma #peoplepleasing #toxicfamily #HealingJourney
