I wear my sunglasses on my head. ALWAYS HAVE! That’s who I am! And you know what Maggie Mae told me before homecoming? “Daddy, just be you. Wear your sunglasses.” ❤️ See, my little girl didn’t want some dressed-up, watered-down version of her daddy. SHE WANTED HER DADDY! And while y’all were investigating my head like a possum looking for leftovers in a Waffle House dumpster, I was standing beside my baby girl, watching her shine in that beautiful dress, wondering where in the world the years went. Because yesterday I was holding her little hand, and today I’m standing beside a young woman who’s growing up faster than my heart can handle. That dress was beautiful, but the girl wearing it is PRICELESS! And behind this crazy daddy’s smile was a heart bursting with pride and breaking just a little, because every milestone I celebrate means she’s one step closer to not needing me to hold her hand. So before you judge somebody by what they’re wearing, maybe ASK THE STORY! My sunglasses were on my head, but my HEART was walking beside me in that dress! And if you think a pair of sunglasses is the biggest problem in this world, you’ve got more screws loose than a Lizard Lick tow truck running down a washboard dirt road! 😂 Maggie Mae, Daddy wouldn’t trade that night, that walk, or that smile for all the gold in Georgia.
