Kelly Clarkson and a Brooklyn Store Disagree Over What Happened With a $15,000 Singing Bird Kelly Clarkson and a Brooklyn curiosity shop are publicly clashing over a visit to the store. On Saturday, October 10, Clarkson, 44, said she was treated like Julia Roberts’ character in Pretty Woman at Art of Play. She said she asked about buying a $15,000 singing bird and was “looked at as if I couldn’t afford it.” The store says that’s not how it went. In an Instagram post, it said Clarkson spent five minutes inside and asked about a mechanical bird puppet named Molly. According to the store, Molly is permanently attached to the wall and is not for sale. The store says it explained that a nearly identical automaton is owned by the artist who made them, Bliss Kolb of Seattle. It says he was willing to part with it for $15,000. It also says it offered to show her a different singing bird from a German clockmaking shop for about $2,000, but she did not stay long enough to see it. Clarkson disputes that account. She wrote on X that she pointed to a price tag on the wall reading “Singing Bird” and asked if it was for sale. She says she was told it costs $15,000 and was offered something comparable. She called the store “rude” and a “liar.” She also said she supports small businesses. The store says it reached out to her directly “to try and clear the air.” It hopes everyone can someday laugh about this “misunderstanding.” Who do you think is telling it right? #kellyclarkson #artofplay #brooklyn #celebrity #prettywoman
