@ernie.the.cockerpoo: 🐾 Today’s puppy training lesson: WAIT! As you can see, the first attempt didn’t quite go to plan 😂 But Ernie soon started getting the hang of it! We actually started teaching Ernie to wait at mealtimes. First, we got him to sit before putting his food bowl down, then gradually introduced the word “wait” while showing him the palm of our hand. He only gets to eat when we say “okay”. Now we’re practising with treats too! Here’s how we’re doing it 👇 🐾 Ask him to sit and show him a treat. 🐾 Say “wait” while holding up the palm of your hand ✋ 🐾 Place the treat in front of him. 🐾 If he tries to grab it, cover it with your hand and try again. 🐾 Start with just a second or two, then gradually increase the time. 🐾 When he waits, say “okay” and let him have the treat! The aim isn’t just to get him to wait for food. We want to use this command in everyday situations, like waiting before leaving the house, getting out of the car and eventually stopping and waiting before crossing roads.
