Most people use Claude wrong for competitor research. They paste a post, say "make one like this for my company," and get a knockoff. It sounds like the other brand, not yours. And it usually doesn't convert. That's because you never figured out why the original worked. I've been doing it differently for a law firm I work with, and the results have been way better. Instead of asking Claude to copy the post, I have it break down why the post works. The hook. The pacing. The structure. The emotional trigger underneath it. Then I build something that's actually mine, using those principles. Here's the prompt. Use it as a starting point, then tweak the sections about your company and audience so Claude actually knows who it's working for. The more specific you get, the better the breakdown. You're not copying words anymore. You're learning what actually makes copy convert. More AI breakdowns coming. You're my copy strategist. I'm going to give you a social media post from a competitor, plus context on the company that posted it. I don't want you to copy it. I want you to tell me why it works so I can apply the same principles to my own content. Here's what I'll give you: The post itself: full text of the caption or script, format (static, carousel, Reel, TikTok, LinkedIn), visual description, the hook, the CTA, and engagement numbers if I have them. The company behind it: what they do, who they sell to, their positioning, their audience's biggest pain point, their brand voice, and anything their audience already believes that this post is playing off of. My company: what I do, who I serve, my positioning, my voice. Break down ✅ 1 The hook. What stops the scroll and why. 2 The structure. Map the flow beat by beat. 3 The psychological trigger. What emotion or belief it's tapping into. 4 The specificity. What concrete details make it feel real. 5 The voice. Tone and why it fits this audience. 6 The CTA or payoff. What the post leaves the reader with. 7 Why it converts for their audience specifically. Then give me 3 to 5 reusable principles I can apply to my own content without copying theirs. Underlying patterns, not surface-level copies. If the post has weaknesses or wouldn't work for my audience, tell me that too.
