Hi, I’m Chelsie and I’m a survivor of domestic abuse. I’ve never actually admitted this so publicly. I’ve barely admitted it to myself. Because to admit that means that I was once a victim and, in a lot of ways, still am. To admit that carries shame that I allowed myself to be that. To admit that means that someone I thought loved me, never actually did. To admit that means reliving old memories through a new lens. To admit that means that I may face more abuse simply for saying that. But mostly, admitting that means that I’m putting myself in the vulnerable position of having people doubt my story. Minimize my experience bc it wasn’t physical and other women have it worse. Accuse me of being dramatic. Or not trying hard enough. To hear all the ways that I was actually the issue. Because that’s what I was taught would happen if I spoke up. And it might. I might get comments on here saying that. Honestly, that’s one of my biggest fears. To have what I know is true be questioned or misunderstood. But I think that denying these truths is keeping me stuck in my healing process. I can’t learn to be completely and authentically confident in myself if I’m denying part of my truth. If I’m letting the fear of how others react to MY life and MY experience and how I handled it, dictate what I do or share. So here it is, exposure therapy at its peak. My truth. Out for the world to pick apart, judge, resonate with, respond to, or share in. And maybe the world will. Or maybe it won’t. So be it. #domesticabuseawareness #emotionalabuse #divorce #toxicrelationship #narcissisticabuse
