With so many different NFL teams represented by the stars who will be returning to the ballroom for Super Bowl Night (Danny Amendola, Donald Driver, Emmitt Smith, and DeMarcus Ware), I thought about which NFL teams have had the most representation among star contestants (I suspected the Dallas Cowboys but wondered if I was being swayed by prominent Dallas Cowboy Emmitt Smith competing twice) as well as whether there were any teams that have not had stars on Dancing with the Stars (as a fan of the Cleveland Browns and the Atlanta Falcons, I could not think of any stars who had played for those teams). What were my findings? I was correct that the Dallas Cowboys had made the most stars on the show with 5 different contestants, even if you only count Emmitt Smith once. Also, I was correct that neither the Atlanta Falcons nor the Cleveland Browns had been represented in the ballroom, in addition to the Indianapolis Colts and Kansas City Chiefs. When I was deciding how to analyze this data, I had a few choices to make. Would I count Emmitt Smith 1x (as 1 star) or 2x (as a contestant in 2 seasons)? Would I include teams that players joined after their time on Dancing with the Stars? Would I include players who were practice squad and/or off-season only as representatives of those teams? I decided that Emmitt Smith counts 2x; only teams from before competing on DWTS would be counted, and practice squad and off-season only players would not be included in the formal count (but I did include a table about them). Also, I put a star next to the players who were part of a specific team's roster while also competing on DWTS, which used to happen sometimes during spring seasons. I had so many questions about connections between the NFL and Dancing with the Stars as we approach tonight's Super Bowl themed episode. If I had more time, I would have attempted to find answers to all of them. Which NFL team has the highest average season completion percentage? Are there trends around pros partnering with football players (ie: most overall, highest percentage of pairings, pairing with specific teams)? This could be good content to explore around the Super Bowl as it is more challenging to think of data to analyze in the off-season. Are you excited for Super Bowl Night and the return of some NFL stars to the DWTS ballroom? Can you think of any famous players from the Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts, or Kansas City Chiefs who would be good stars for season 36? Which musician(s) do you think will headline the upcoming Super Bowl halftime show?
