of all the Panasonic or Hitachi (if actually made by Hitachi and not funai/Orion) would be a great pick, I've worked on many VCRs and those two as well as JVC seem to hold up

I have that same Proscan VCR. it's got a Panasonic mechanism inside and I've personally never had any real issues with that one. I'd say it and those actual Panasonic brands are great ones to buy.

Get the cheapest one and turn it into a mold cleaning machine. Easy conversion and cheaper than the actual things they sell to get mold off of vhs tapes.
