MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN - Jalin White was sentenced to 12 years in prison after admitting he seriously injured his 8-month-old son during an incident that began while he was playing NBA 2K. Prosecutors said White became furious while losing an online game by two points in the fourth quarter. He was holding the baby at the time, and during the outburst, he threw the infant toward a wall above his bed. When the child's mother returned home, she found the baby twitching, struggling to breathe and suffering from a swollen eye before rushing him to the hospital. Doctors discovered a traumatic brain injury, a major skull fracture and multiple other injuries. At one point, the baby lost his pulse and needed CPR. Doctors initially feared the child would not survive. He did survive, but was left with serious long-term medical problems, including visual impairment, dependence on a feeding tube and the need for ongoing specialized care. Investigators said White initially gave different explanations for what happened, including claiming the baby had fallen from an air mattress. He later admitted throwing the child and hearing his head strike the wall. In December 2025, White pleaded guilty to child abuse causing great bodily harm and child neglect. The court sentenced him to 12 years in prison, followed by seven years of extended supervision.
