WE WERE TOLD THAT WE HAVE UNTIL END OF DAY FRIDAY (10/2) TO SECURE A MEDICAL RESCUE FOR PHOENIX… AND WE DID IT!! 🐦‍🔥 This handsome boy arrived at GCAC in Flint, Michigan as a stray with a severe injury. He was terrified and in pain, but after a few days of adjustment, pain meds, and decompression, he’s showing us the real him - a boy who desperately needs the love and medical care he’s been waiting his whole life for. The elbow joint of Phoenix’s front right limb is completely out of place, and it appears to have been like this for an extended period of time. Because this issue was not fixed when it happened, his body has tried to heal itself and created scar tissue. His tricep has hardened with calcium deposits, making it impossible to move or bend his arm away from his body. The joint is locked in place by scar tissue and bone misalignments. What exactly does all of this mean? It means that he will most likely need an amputation of the limb — and GCAC is not the place for this beautiful soul to go through that or attempt to recover afterwards. On top of this horrible injury, he is also heartworm positive. Unfortunately, Phoenix is no stranger to neglect, mistreatment, and who knows what else. But Phoenix is so much more than a sad dog with a broken heart. He’s a warrior, a lover, and a champion of hearts. He wants to live and experience a life filled with happiness and adventure. More than anything else, he wants to be loved and to be treated as a real member of the family. He has not given up his hope in humanity, and we’re not giving up on him. Phoenix appears to be dog friendly with slow and proper introductions, but it would be best to give him his own space while going through treatment and recovery. We have thankfully secured a rescue, meaning this boy is on to better days. WE LOVE YOU, PHOENIX. #adoptdontshop #rescuedog #shelterdog #dog #animalrescue
