Why God Disciplines Those He Loves | Paul Washer . What does it really mean for God to love someone? Paul Washer challenges a shallow understanding of divine love by pointing to Jacob and Esau. God prospered Esau, gave him success, and allowed him to live as he pleased. But He did not intervene to make him holy. Jacob’s life looked very different. God pursued him, disciplined him, and shaped him through trials. Why? Because God’s love is not centered on comfort or prosperity. It is centered on holiness. He will not leave His children as they are. He will conform them to the image of Christ, no matter the cost. This truth cuts against modern ideas of blessing. God’s goal is not your best life now. It is your transformation. If you belong to Him, He will work in you, refine you, and even break you in order to make you holy. “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.” (Romans 9:13) “For the Lord disciplines the one he loves.” (Hebrews 12:6) “Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline.” (Revelation 3:19) “For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son.” (Romans 8:29) If this challenged your view of God’s love, share it with someone who needs to hear the truth. . #PaulWasher #JacobAndEsau #GodsLove #Discipline #Holiness #Sanctification #ReformedTheology #DoctrinesOfGrace #BiblicalTruth #ChristianGrowth #SufferingAndSanctification #ConformToChrist #BibleTeaching #FaithAndObedience #GospelTruth
