You're just wrong... In chemistry, elements are measured under standard atmospheric pressure. That's why we say water boils at 100°C, rather than using some other number that changes depending on pressure. So, according to how we approach these measurements in chemistry, tungsten has the highest melting point, as carbon doesn't have a melting point at standard atmospheric pressure.

Hey, go to reddit and write 5 posts how water has the highest melting point and there you go, that's the official truth now.

he is wrong, the question is 'melting point!' not 'subliming point' sooo tungsten is the correct answer!

It wasn’t the models fault, it’s the user. Ask stupid questions, get stupid answers… I use to teach a data science class and ask if 100 was hot. 🤔

I respect your answer Dr. but, wouldn’t the correct answer be: tungsten has the highest melting point at normal atmospheric pressure; carbon can melt at higher temperatures under elevated pressure.

Tungsten (W) has the highest melting point of any element: about 3,422 °C (6,192 °F). Carbon is sometimes mentioned instead, but at normal pressure it doesn't melt. It sublimes, turning straight from solid to gas at around 3,640 °C. It only becomes liquid under very high pressure.

well melting point is the temperature a solid turns to liquid you just said carbon turns to gas directly under normal conditions. so technically it doesn't have a melting point

Tungsten does have the highest melting point at normal atmospheric pressure, sublimation doesn’t mean the carbon has a higher melting point

So the reasoning behind Carbon having a higher "melting point" is because it doesn't actually melt?
