Yes. This is why our gas cost more and those of us who grew up in smog don't complain about it.

LAUSD used to have smog days in the 80’s. As a kid, we love loved it because it meant no school!

We pay for clean air and it is worth every penny. Always room for improvement as nothing is perfect. It is far better than when I was a kid of the 70’s-80’s

Even in the 80s it was problematic and there were smog days. Only in the 90s did things start getting better.

100%. The South Coast Air Quality Management Board implemented a bold and controversial plan that ended up being one of the most successful initiatives in hindsight sight I can recall from my youth growing up in So Cal

the smog was horrible in the 70s, smog alerts were common at school and meant no outside recess.

Dude that wasn’t even that long ago… I’m 40 the first time I went to Disneyland was when I was 8, coming over the grapevine you can see the smog settled like brownish fog. When I went back when I was 18 in 2004ish it was so much better.

Yes I grew up in L.A. during the 60’s and the smog back then was so bad that my chest hurt so bad it felt like a sharp stabbing pain in the chest. That’s when lead was used in gasoline before unleaded

100 facts!
I remember swimming and playing outside all day, then laying in bed at night, it hurt to breath.
deep breaths would hurt my lungs. Red Flag days in elementary school, meant outside recess was cancelled. Spending it playing heads up 7up or duck duck goose indoors

Yup. Happened all the time in the 80’s and very early 90’s when I was in elementary. It’s why I gladly pay more for gas and be as green as possible.

It’s true - we had smog days where they called off PE and didn’t allow any outdoor play it was that bad. Your chest would hurt from the smog when you took a deep breath. That’s why I appreciate the regulations and extra we need to pay for fuel in order to keep it going

Yes, in the morning you would turn on the TV and get the smog rating for the day. If it was red, you weren’t supposed to go outside. It was red often

That was before special blend gas and strict emission standards. So instead of complaining about air pollution (smog), people complain about expensive gas and cars.
