Weston is one year old. In September, his mother Carissa believed she had a seizure while driving. Her car went into a pond in Michigan. Weston was underwater for about 11 minutes. His heart stopped. It took 52 minutes of CPR to bring his pulse back. He survived. He opened his eyes. He eventually came off the ventilator. After three weeks at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital, he was transferred to Mary Free Bed to begin rehabilitation. His family called it a miracle. Then, days into rehab, vomit entered his lungs. He struggled to breathe. He was rushed back by ambulance. Doctors found a respiratory virus on top of everything else. His fragile lungs couldn't keep up, even on the highest level of breathing support. He was placed back on a ventilator. For parents who had already come so close to losing their son, it was another gut punch. But this morning, there's good news. Weston is off the ventilator again. His lungs are healing well. He's not out of the woods. Doctors are still managing his secretions, working on his feeding, and watching for neurostorming as his nervous system keeps recovering. Please keep praying for his lungs, for his breathing, for his little body to keep growing stronger.
