@lifeastheotherhalf: Cancer has changed our marriage in ways I never expected. And honestly, a lot of those changes have brought us closer together. Our communication is stronger, we’re more open with our feelings, and I think we understand and appreciate each other on a much deeper level than we did before. But that doesn’t mean every part of navigating our marriage through cancer has been easy. One of the biggest challenges for me has been learning how to step out of caregiver mode and just be her husband. When so much of your life revolves around taking care of someone you love, it can be hard to turn that part of your brain off. We’re still learning how to find balance, make time for each other, and figure out what our new normal looks like. I don’t think our marriage is worse because of cancer. In a lot of ways, I genuinely believe it’s stronger. It’s just different. And we’re still figuring out what that means. For those navigating cancer with a spouse or partner, how has it changed your relationship? Has it brought you closer, created new challenges, or maybe a little of both? #husbandandwife #cancerawareness #breastcancer

My cancer brought my wife and I closer. We don’t fight, because the little issues aren’t issues because we know the importance of life and how that shit doesn’t matter enough to be angry 💞

As a care giver for my husband I spend money to make the job easier. Eat out a lot and it helps me not be so tired. He's being picky about food so this works out well for us 😋

Its so weird. I give you all the credit in the world because I was the one in need of care. Caregivers dont get the appreciation they deserve. You're a good man sir and I tip my hat to you with the utmost respect 🙏

As a stage 4 terminal pancreatic cancer fighter. It has changed so many things. You definitely summed it up in your video. I let my husband watch and it hit home for us. We take our appointments, scans and everything in between very seriously. But my good days or even weeks. We travel, goof off, visit family and live life to the fullest as much as we normally can. I’m fighting to the end and enjoying as much as I can. Big hugs and love and prayers sent your way. ❤️🙏🏻 And fuck cancer! 😁

I was diagnosed 18 months into our marriage and at 17 weeks pregnant. Our son is 16 months old now and we went on our first actual date since being diagnosed. I didn’t realize how much we needed it. Having cancer & a baby changed so much about us and I don’t think we realized just how much things had changed & how much we missed “US” until we caught a glimpse this weekend of what life was like for us before I got sick

It takes time but the relationship dynamic definitely comes back! We had a lot of difficult moments where I felt like he treated me like a child (bc he was used to being the primary parent and my caregiver) and times he felt like I was going a little nuts. And that doesn’t even include how I had to struggle with my body dramatically changing and all the hormonal changes that come with breast cancer. You’re both having two extremely different experiences of one traumatic event. That creates so much disconnect. It probably took us a good year to feel like “us” again. Ultimately it made us stronger and brought us closer… but kind of in the way a muscle has to break down to get stronger.

You two are such an inspiration to others. My husband and I have been married for almost 20 years and I think it’s brought us closer, but I know it’s taking a toll on him mentally worrying about me constantly. It is frustrating that our lives revolve around “c” now 😏 but God is good even in the hard times 🙌🏻

Everything you have said. No one knows what the life of a cancer family looks and feels like. And the after effects are different for everyone 😔 open honesty from all parties, is huge path forward ❤️

We split for awhile - he said “it” was too much but what he really meant was “I” was too much. The deeper meaning? He was angry it happened b/c we’d been together only 6 months. It’s been 5 years, we still have things we’re working on individually and together but somehow we’re still together! It’s a wild ride nobody signed up for, he’s still scared of when I’ll go and how I’ll go and what will happen after but for now, we love we live❤️

Agreed. I’m just hitting 3 years of being stage 4. I try so hard not to talk to much about what they are going to do when I’m not here anymore. I keep forgetting how hard this must be for my husband…

This is facts! Hope you don’t mind but i shared this on my fb page but gave you credit! I am a survivor who also talks a lot about how there is not enough care and support for caregivers! Cancer life is tough! It definitely changes how we live life! Sending hugs and prayers!
