@est.blu: Indigenous Peoples’ Day is celebrated to honor the history, cultures, resilience, and contributions of America's first inhabitants and tribal nations. It shifts the focus away from traditional celebrations of Christopher Columbus to acknowledge the painful history of colonization, forced assimilation, displacement, and violence inflicted upon Native populations. It honors the survival, strength, and continuous impact of Tribal Nations in modern society. The day often serves as a time for activism, calling attention to land sovereignty, environmental justice, and issues like missing and murdered Indigenous women. Happy indigenous people’ day!
