@deviouspuppet: Old sweet springs resort The site was first settled around 1760 by James Moss, and natural mineral springs were utilized for their healing properties. From 1820 until the Civil War, the resort was a premier wellness destination. It famously hosted early U.S. presidents—including George Washington and James Madison—alongside figures like Robert E. Lee and Henry Clay. The resort lost ground to competitors with direct railroad access (such as The Greenbrier). It went into receivership and closed in 1930 Purchased by the state of West Virginia, it served as a tuberculosis sanatorium and later as the Andrew S. Rowan Memorial Home for the aged from 1945 until 1991. Sources Wikipedia and wvculture.org Was a beautiful site to see and hope Ashby’s family can keep this property. If you know anything about this property, let me know if you’ve been here. Let me know. I hear Ashby used to give tours. #sweetspringsresort #westvirginia #abandoned #oldhistory #deviouspuppet

Wendi Lou :
I spent majority of 2024 on that property, inside and out of the buildings, the hiking trails, etc working side by side with Ashby. his passing was not only a personal tragedy, but a huge loss for this property! he had an amazing vision for it! sadly, it will never become what he once dreamed. I have faith that Zen and Cindy will turn the property into something great, but I fear the buildings might get demolished... there's so much age and damage, and the longer it sits, the worse it'll get. the price tag is high for the necessary repairs, so it is unlikely it will be restored without a damn good investor...
