Hailey. And Me ♥️ One by one, Andre hugged each of us before leaving for United States Army basic training. At the time, we didn’t know exactly what the next few months would look like. We just knew that someone who had always been part of our everyday lives was about to be missing from them. And those first hugs? They still break my heart to watch. Months of handwritten letters, a handful of phone calls, countless prayers, and so much growing later, we stood in front of him again. And one by one, in that same order, we hugged him all over again. ❤️ Except this time, I saw something different. Confidence. Discipline. Maturity. A young man who looked like he’d found his stride. The little boy I raised was still in there. The big brother his siblings adored was still there. But standing in front of us was also a United States Army Soldier. As his mother, I can’t explain the comfort that gave me. Because letting your children go is one of the hardest parts of raising them. But watching them become everything you prayed they’d be? That’s a different kind of emotion. The first hugs were about letting go. The second hugs were about seeing what letting go had allowed him to become. He left a boy. He returned a man.
